Playbusters receive ‘Outstanding’ award in

Its Your Neighbourhood

Playbusters were awarded ‘Outstanding’ in the Its Your Neighbourhood awards this week for their efforts to clean up and green up their neighbourhood.

The award was presented to Audrey and Margaret Douglas, two of Playbusters volunteers, by George Anderson from the BBC’s Beechgrove Garden at a ceremony at the Albert Halls in Stirling.  Out of 110 groups that entered, Playbusters were one of only 15 from across Scotland in the ‘Outstanding’ category with the assessors describing Playbusters as “an amazing organisation which empowers individuals of all ages to generate change in Glasgow’s East End”.

It’s Your Neighbourhood, a scheme designed and developed by the Royal Horticultural Society, is ideally suited for volunteer-led community gardening projects or groups, who aim to clean up and green up their local area, whether it is the estate where they live, a piece of communal ground or the space outside a community building.  The campaign is an inclusive, non-competitive scheme which welcomes groups of all shapes and sizes.  It is all about bringing members of the community together to make a positive change to the place where they live, work or spend their leisure time.

Jeremy Laycock, Senior Climate Challenge Officer at Playbusters said “We are delighted to accept this award on behalf of the whole organisation.  This award recognises the hard work of all of our volunteers, young and old, helping to improve their local environment through regular clean ups, creating beautiful wildlife gardens and community food growing spaces and helping to reduce the amount of waste we create”.
