Surf Awards 2009

Surf Awards 2009 - Click for larger version For over ten years, the SURF awards have helped to recognise and promote successful regeneration initiatives. This year, Playbusters received an award for their 'People' category at the SURF Awards presentation dinner at the Radisson Hotel in Glasgow city centre. Here are the judges comments -

The judges of the SURF awards felt that Playbusters has made a significant impact on all generations and communities of interest in the East End of Glasgow. They witnessed the interest, enthusiasm and involvement of all those in using and supporting this project.
The project has grown from small beginnings as a playspace development group and continues to grow in enthusiasm and expertise to develop new projects to support its users. The role and commitment of young volunteers after their own experiences in accessing the project, is commendable. The judges were also impressed by the support provided by the adult workers and were particularly impressed by the support for those in the community who might otherwise have not achieved further and higher education opportunities. Equally, in response to community demand, the development of a flexible Spanish language training course for use from pre-school to adult level is a clear demonstration of the project's impact on the community's growth in self-confidence.
The project is held in high regard by other stakeholders and service providers in the public sector. The judges met a number of young people who had gone on to training and employment opportunities as a result of their experiences with the project.

The judges agreed that this project provided an inspiring example of a project working for the benefit of its community and are pleased to announce the Playbusters Ltd. project as a worthy winner in the People category of the 20009 SURF Awards.
