It was Fun for all the family at Parkhead at an event organised by the Friends of Beardmore Park.   Children enjoyed the fun fair rides, face painting and the bouncy castle and other joined in the Urban Fox team to develop their football skills. They then headed to the Marquee where Parkhead Youth Project demonstrated healthy eating workshops making fruit kebabs.

Even more entertainment was in store with fabulous live music from the very talented musicians  from Sound Lab who performed at the bandstand and the music from these young people gained loud applause.

The marquee was busy with lots of information stands for local people with Community Safety Services, Geezabreak, Greater Easterhouse Alcohol Awareness, Childcare Strategy, Glasgow Works, Playbusters and Tombola from Cuthelton and Crail Street Sheltered Housing.

Lots of people took part in the flower display workshops organised by Land Services and youngsters were fascinated by the snake and lizard displays brought along by council staff.

The day also saw the launch of ‘Young Friends of Beardmore Park’ and young people got the opportunity to view the plans for the Multi Purpose Games Court planned for the large grassed area in the park and to give their views.  The young people were very excited at the prospect of the games court and gave it the thumbs up.

One of the aims of the event was to highlight how well the park can be used and to encourage more people to become involved by joining the Friends of Beardmore, who are a group of local people and community organisations.    Over the past two years there have been fun days, school sports days, bulb planting and play sessions showing that it can have many uses.

To event was finished off by a Clean Up organised by Glasgow City Council Safety Services and kids and adults helped.  If you are interested in finding out more and would like to join the Friends of Beardmore Park then contact us at:
